I hope that most of you are aware of what regional lock is. Regional lock prevents matchmaking worldwide so we can only get players who are playing in the same region. Tekken 7 can be played online on Steam, PS4 and Xbox One. Tekken 7 has a regional lock on Steam. You won't be able to find players easily when playing online. I purchased this game because I was tired of playing offline on my PC so I thought why not give it a try and play online for a better game experience. After purchasing the game on Steam I installed it which took almost four to five hours because of the total size of the game. The total size of Tekken 7 on Steam is almost 60GB.
MY FIRST MATCHMAKING
I was super excited that now I will be able to play with some real players to find out what skills players use and how to counter those skills. Starting finding a quick match in the online tab and guess what happened? I took almost ten minutes to find an opponent. Those ten minutes I was super excited to play against and opponent so I was just practicing some moves to have a better game play when the fight start. Finally, I found an opponent who was also a new player and we played almost six to seven matches and it felt real good and then I decided to play some Rank games to see what level of game experience I will get. Started finding a Rank match and thanks to Tekken for creating a practice lobby where we can practice our character moves before finding an opponent. I was super happy that now I will be able to play against a player who is real good at Tekken. You guys won't believe but it took me nearly twenty minutes to find an opponent. I got super frustrated that what on earth is this game that finding a player is this much difficult so I got curious and closed the game.
HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT REGIONAL LOCK
I opened up my chrome browser and started to search how Tekken matchmaking works and I found out something that made me regret purchasing this game on Steam. A guy on a forum posted a video where he proved that there is a regional lock on Tekken. What he actually did was first he opened up his Steam and started Tekken to find a quick match. He opened up the quick match tab and search for sessions and when the search completed there was only 1 session with a very low ping that he couldn't even play. So he closed the game and went into the Steam settings and changed the region to the US. The previous region was Russia. After changing the region Steam restarted and he started the game and then when he opened up the quick match and searched for sessions, there were twelve sessions with good ping. He just randomly joined one and played the game. When the game ended he changed his region back to Russia and then the same issue occurred again.
SOLUTION TO THIS REGIONAL LOCK
The only solution that I have for this is that lookup for a good region when you know you will be able to find opponents easily. Set that region and play your game. The region that I am using right now is UK-LONDON and comparatively, it takes way less time to find an opponent. Unfortunately, this is the only way out of this regional lock. Another way is that just switch from PC to PS4 or Xbox One if you are really interested in this game. There is another way which can help you get opponents. All you have to do is to change your region from the control panel so that your computer region will be changed and Steam will automatically detect your location and matching up with the players will be a lot easier than before.
